Metro Care Connection school-based health clinic
Jefferson High School has a full-time school-based health clinic, also known as Metro Care Connection or MCC. MCC is a health clinic providing services such as routine physical examinations, which are required for students to participate in sports.
Other services provided include:
- Immunizations
- Treatment of minor illnesses such as an ear infection or strep throat
- Basic laboratory tests like throat cultures or a urine test
- Prescriptions for medications like antibiotics
- Health education and counseling
- Referral for complex medical conditions
- And referral for counseling services.
These are some of the services not available in the clinic:
- ADHD medication management
- Complex lab testing
- Hospitalization
- Reproductive health care
- X-rays
In order to receive health care at a school-based health clinic, students under the age of 18 need a completed consent form signed by a parent/guardian. Students insured by Medicaid may have medical services billed to Medicaid. There is no associated cost to these students and their families. State vaccine requirements
All students need to be up-to-date on required vaccines! If you are not sure if you are current with vaccines, check with the staff in the clinic or contact your primary care provider! Students must have the required vaccines to be in school!
Important forms to consider
The Over-the-Counter (OTC) form allows you to sign up for your student to receive up to 5 doses of over-the-counter Tylenol or Ibuprofen from the health clinic as needed for minor aches and pains.
The “Medication Admission Permission Form” must accompany each and every medication your student will need to be administered at school. All medications must be kept in the health clinic.
If your student carries an inhaler with them during the day, make sure they have this form signed and dropped off in the health clinic. You should also drop a backup inhaler in the clinic for emergencies (don’t forget the Medication Administration Permission form above).
9th-grade dental screening requirement
Iowa Law requires that all 9th graders must have a dental screening. Important information to keep in mind:
- The dental screening must occur no earlier than one year before enrollment and no later than four months after enrollment in 9th grade.
- Screenings can ONLY be performed by dentists or dental hygienists.
- The Jefferson Clinic can help families ensure dental screenings are obtained.
- Physical copies of the screening forms can also be found in the clinic.
